Stadia Connect - 28 04 20 - DLS Tech

Stadia today invited us to join them for the latest Stadia Connect on YouTube and they didn’t disappoint. During the 16 minutes of almost back to back announcements I really got a feeling that everything had finally clicked, the messaging was clear and the games came thick and fast. Perhaps best of all thanks to the magic of Stadia, the games announced and launched during the connect were available to play instantly. No downloads or day 1 patches here, just straight in to the game! Here’s a summary of what was announced for Stadia today.

First up, Phil Harrison was pleased to announce that EA are bringing Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, FIFA and Madden to the platform later this year. We’ve known since last year that EA are a partner but they’ve remained silent ever since so it’s great to finally have some confirmed titles. FIFA is a huge game for Stadia (presumably it will be FIFA 21) and it’s sure to attract many games across Europe to the platform, especially without having to shell out around £500 for a next gen console to play it on!

Another game that was announced is Crayta, a brand new title that’s going to be available first on Stadia in Summer. This looks like it has the potential to be a real hit! The creativity of Minecraft meets the art style of Fortnite, you can build your own world, collaboratively with other players in real time! Checkout the trailer below….

Another game that was announced for Stadia is the well reviewed, traditional JRPG Octopath Traveler. This was announced and available instantly in the store for £49.99. Take a look at the launch trailer below…

The games and announcements kept coming thick and fast, with the long announced Stadia exclusive Get Packed finally given a release date of…. You’ve guess it, today! Yes, that’s right following the trend of this Stadia Connect, Get Packed was available to purchase during the presentation for only £19.99! Here’s the release trailer…

Another new announcement was a game that will be available on Stadia May 1st as a free Stadia Pro title, Zombie Army 4: Dead War from developer Rebellion. Promising tense drop-in, drop-out action this is one to look forward to when it lands this Friday! Here’s the official trailer…

Next up on the list of games announced today is First on Stadia title Wave Break which looks to be a cross between Wave Race, SSX and Tony Hawk Pro Skater! Wave Brake is set in a 1980s era Miami Vice inspired world, filled with outlandish characters and a fresh synthwave soundtrack. This one is due out in Summer. Here’s the official Trailer…

Rock of Ages 3 was also announced as a Stadia game which is due this June. A physics heavy, competitive tower defence game that looks like it will be a lot of fun! Take a look at the short trailer below…

Embr was another newly announced Stadia title. A first person game that puts you in the shoes of a fireman, tasked with putting out fires and saving lives! It looks to have a great style and sense of humour, the trailer gave me Hello Neighbour vibes. Embr is coming to Stadia in Early Access on May 21st. Here’s the announcement trailer…

Stadia perhaps saved the best til last with the hugely popular battle royale title PUBG announced for Stadia and available to play immediately, for free to Pro subscribers! No downloads, no patches, no installs, just instant action and as if that wasn’t enough, PUBG supports cross platform multiplayer too! Here’s the official launch trailer…

Overall, this Stadia Connect was a huge success and it feels like Stadia now has momentum behind them with an influx of players thanks to everyone being able to sign up and enjoy 2 months of Stadia Pro completely free. Now as the eyes of the gaming world gazed upon Stadia, they didn’t waste the limelight, they unleashed an excellent selection of games and took advantage of their cloud gaming service by making a lot of the announcements available immediately. FIFA in particular is a huge game to have on Stadia for the UK and European gamers and I’m sure Madden will be equally as big for the gamers across the pond.
