In todays budget, Rishi Sunak announced that the contactless payment limit will be increased from the current £45 up to £100. This will undoubtedly be a phased rollout as the contactless infrastructure is updated nationwide, but the higher limit will be great news for Apple Pay and Google Pay users along with the traditional contactless card payments widely used across the country.

As the UK prepares for live after lockdown, this increase is a welcome change (especially for Apple & Google Pay users as they require biometric authentication) that will greatly reduce chip and pin machine usage which have the potential to spread COVID-19.
